Aethalometer® - Black Carbon monitoring

Black carbon in the air shed, implicated in anthropogenic climate change and health risks, is generated from combustion processes including burning of fuels such as diesel or coal and biomass burning (e.g. wild fires or wood smoke from domestic heating).   For more background information see the Black Carbon frequently asked questions.

An Aethalometer® uses continuous optical analysis to determine the black carbon concentration in the aerosol deposited on a filter from the sample air stream.  Applications for the Aethalometer include:

Air Quality monitoring  • Emissions testing • Climate Change research • Health Effects research • Combustion research
